Unicums

“It is true that Elfriede Otto owes a lot to her wide travelling and her gift of looking at the nature intensively
but this isn’t sufficient to explain the expressiveness of her paintings.”

(Dr. Orpel)

Influenced by the distinguished German contemporary painter Strawalde (Jürgen Böttcher) and the best-known Austrian informal painter Hermann Nitsch, Elfriede Otto now follows new avenues.

Her spontaneous style of painting enables her to create a vigorous, informal art which she develops further continuously. Her predominantly representational pictures reveal touches, traces, memories of organic and crystalline forms and a strong love of nature. What both her aquatint etchings and Unicums have in common is the transparency, the spatial depth and the complexity, which are characteristic of Elfriede Otto’s work.
